Two trial lawyers, one standard

Brett N. Huff has spent more than two decades trying cases in Colorado and Wyoming. He began his legal career in 1989 as a legal specialist with the U.S. Army and the Utah Army National Guard, then earned his J.D. from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 2000. He spent his first eight years in practice as a litigation attorney at a prominent Denver insurance defense firm, before founding Huff & Leslie, LLP and becoming its Managing Partner in 2008.

Brett represented clients in hundreds of bench and jury trials, argued dozens of appeals, and brought three cases before the United States Supreme Court. His practice centers on personal injury, including catastrophic injury, brain injury, and wrongful death, plus insurance bad faith and coverage disputes, subrogation, business and commercial litigation, professional representation, and trucking claims on behalf of both owner-operators and companies. He also guides Colorado families through estate planning and probate, from wills and trusts to powers of attorney.

Early in his career, Brett chaired the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association’s Young Lawyers Section (2001–2003) and graduated from the IADC Trial Academy in 2003. He is the recipient of the 2025 CDLA Professionalism Award, has been selected to Super Lawyers every year since 2020, holds a 9.5 out of 10 “Superb” rating on Avvo, and was awarded the Client Champion award in 2020.

Richard W. Leslie built his career representing insurers before switching sides. After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado Boulder and his J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 1997, he spent more than five years defending insurance companies at a respected firm on Denver’s 17th Street. Today his practice sits squarely on the plaintiff’s side of the table: personal injury, motor-vehicle accidents, product liability, real estate, and civil litigation, with occasional high-asset dissolution matters.

Richard is one of Colorado’s foremost ski-injury litigators, a reputation he backs with more than thirty-five years on the mountain as an expert skier. He understands the terrain, the Ski Safety Act, and how these cases are actually won, representing skiers and snowboarders hurt at Colorado resorts and in the backcountry alike. Trial work runs in the family: his father, Richard M. Leslie, spent more than fifty years as a leading trial attorney in south Florida and argued before the United States Supreme Court.
